Priyank Kharge, a minister in the Karnataka government, has compared BJP leaders to “loose cannons” and cautioned that they cannot make irresponsible remarks without facing consequences. Regarding the potential reversal of the hijab ban in Karnataka, Kharge, who has been included in Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s cabinet but has not yet been assigned a portfolio, stated that the party will assess and potentially reject any legislation that is not in the best interest of the people or goes against constitutional principles.

“BJP has become loose cannons. They have lost the connect between their tongue and their brain. They don’t think before they speak…They think they can get away with it. That is not going to happen anymore in Karnataka,” Priyank Kharge, who is also the son of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said.

In response to BJP leader and former State minister C N Ashwath Narayan’s purported remarks ahead of the State Assembly elections in February, where he allegedly suggested that Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah should be “eliminated” like the historical figure Tipu Sultan, the Congress leader currently in Delhi expressed his concerns. An FIR was lodged against Ashwath Narayan at the Devaraja police station in Mysuru on Thursday, under Sections 506 and 153 of the IPC, for his alleged statement against Siddaramaiah.

Kharge said, “People need to be very careful about what they speak. As long as they are well within their rights, we have no issues but you cannot demean the Office of the CM or the CM himself and get away with it.”
