The Gujarat Congress is organizing a protest march called the ‘Nyay Padyatra’ (Justice March) starting August 9. The march will be led by Congress Seva Dal chief Lalji Desai, Gujarat Congress President Shaktisinh Gohil, and MLA Jignesh Mevani. Notable party leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and party president Mallikarjun Kharge, are also expected to join.
The march will begin in Morbi and end in Gandhinagar on August 22. It aims to seek justice for victims of recent tragedies in Gujarat, including the Morbi bridge collapse, the TRP Game zone fire in Rajkot, and the Harni Lake tragedy in Vadodara. The Congress argues that these incidents are the result of systemic corruption and negligence under the BJP-led government.
The chosen date, August 9, is significant in Indian history, marking Mahatma Gandhi’s call for civil disobedience in 1942.
Congress spokesperson Shailesh Parmar emphasized that the march will spotlight what the party views as rampant corruption and mismanagement under BJP rule. The march will feature 101 core participants and families of the victims to highlight the human impact of these tragedies.
As the yatra moves through different districts, the Congress will hold public dialogue sessions. They have informed senior leaders about the event and are hopeful for their participation. During a recent visit to Gujarat, Rahul Gandhi met families affected by these tragedies, including the Morbi bridge collapse, which killed 135 people, and other incidents involving significant loss of life.
