Internal conflicts persist within the Punjab Congress, intensifying each day. After clashes in Navanshahr, similar confrontations arose in Amritsar, where followers of Congress leader O.P. Soni and Congress MP Gurjeet Aujla clashed during a meeting today.
It is noteworthy that today’s meeting was scheduled to discuss the Lok Sabha candidate, and as soon as the name of O.P. Soni from Amritsar came up, supporters of MP Gurjeet Aujla objected, sparking a commotion. O.P. Soni’s supporters also started chanting slogans. During this, O.P. Soni’s supporters accused the Congress party of consistently neglecting Hindu faces and demanded the promotion of Hindu representation. In response, MP Aujla stated that this city belongs to gurus and it is essential to uphold both Sikh and Hindu faces, and the party will make the decision.
Amidst the chaos, Congress in-charge Devendra Yadav emphasized that there is no place for indiscipline within the party, and strict action will be taken against those creating disruptions. He clarified that the meeting is for Congress workers and not for searching for a Lok Sabha candidate. The Congress party is formulating strategies only concerning the elections.
Notably, Navjot Singh Sidhu was not present at the meeting in Amritsar, despite being the sitting MP. Sidhu is reportedly not attending meetings organized by the Congress in-charge in every district. On Sidhu’s absence, Raja Warring stated that it is not necessary for every person to be visible in the room. Meanwhile, Pratap Bajwa did not offer any reaction to the commotion. Prior to this, clashes among Congress workers occurred during a meeting in Balachaur, Nawanshahr. At that time, Congress in-charge Devendra Yadav and Manish Tewari resolved the matter, bringing the meeting to a successful conclusion.
