Following a provocative comment by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Ramesh Bidhuri against Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MP Danish Ali, the political landscape in Uttar Pradesh is witnessing new dynamics. Congress has been vocal in its support for Ali, and significant meetings between the two parties suggest potential political alliances.
Congress State President Ajay Rai and key party members met with Danish Ali in Delhi on Wednesday, discussing the political scenario both nationally and at the state level. Rai emphasised Congress’s commitment to opposing the BJP’s “communal mindset.” The Congress leader also expressed openness to the idea of Ali joining Congress, praising his dedication to society and national unity.
In the backdrop, there are undercurrents hinting at Congress’s strategy to strengthen its position in Uttar Pradesh. After securing a win in the Mau by-election, Rai had advised the Samajwadi Party (SP) about their contribution. Congress aims to portray itself as a formidable force in the state, undeterred by the SP’s dominance.
There are speculations about meetings between Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi and BSP chief Mayawati. Some analysts interpret the growing interactions as a sign of intensifying camaraderie between Congress and BSP, potentially countering the might of SP and BJP in the region.
Amid these strategic movements, Congress remains keen on reconnecting with its traditional vote base, which feels alienated following Bidhuri’s remarks. The image of Rai and Ali together is viewed by many as a solid political statement of unity against divisive politics.
