Congress MP Manish Tewari sharply criticized Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s presentation of the Interim Budget for the fiscal year 2024-25, characterizing it as a ‘vote-on-account’ aimed at keeping the government financially afloat for the first quarter.

Tewari expressed concern over the substantial budget deficit of Rs 18 lakh crores, signifying increased government borrowing. Shashi Tharoor echoed dissatisfaction, noting the budget’s brevity and lack of concrete implementation, emphasizing vague language.

Other MPs, including Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Dayanidhi Maran, and Swati Maliwal, criticized the budget for being hollow and disappointing, with concerns about its impact on youth, women, farmers, and economic problems.

In contrast, BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad praised the budget as effective and historic, highlighting India’s economic progress. Finance Minister Sitharaman expressed hope for the BJP’s return to power, emphasizing inclusive development, infrastructure, and youth power in her budget speech.
