Senior Congress leader KC Venugopal criticized the BJP-led central government, accusing Delhi Police, under Union Home Minister Amit Shah, of politicizing the recent security breach in Parliament. Venugopal stated that Delhi Police labelled the incident as a terror attack, emphasizing that the Opposition did not politicize it but expressed concerns about the security lapse.
Addressing a media briefing at the AICC headquarters, Venugopal questioned the suspension of 13 Congress MPs and Trinamool Congress MP Derek O’Brien for the remainder of the ongoing Winter Session, citing misconduct. He highlighted the government’s assurance that the new Parliament building would be the safest place but witnessed lax security.
In response to the political developments, Venugopal announced the launch of the Congress’s online crowdfunding campaign, ‘Donate for Desh,’ inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s historic Tilak Swaraj Fund. The initiative aims to empower the party to create a more equitable India in resource distribution and opportunities.
The crowdfunding campaign, officially launched on December 18 by the party president, encourages contributions from state-level office bearers, elected representatives, DCC Presidents, PCC Presidents, and AICC office bearers, urging them to donate at least Rs 1,380 each. The campaign commemorates the 138-year journey of the Indian National Congress, symbolizing the party’s commitment to a better India.
The online crowd-funding drive will remain active until December 28, the foundation day, after which ground campaigns, including door-to-door visits, will be initiated to secure contributions for the party’s vision. Venugopal urged PCC chiefs to identify potential donors among party well-wishers and functionaries for the campaign’s success.
