AICC general secretary K C Venugopal said on Monday that Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has called a meeting of the newly formed CWC for September 16 in Hyderabad.

Venugopal told a press conference at the headquarters of the All India Congress Committee here that on September 17, an extended Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting will be convened, which will involve all Pradesh Congress Committee chiefs.

On the evening of September 17, a rally near Hyderabad will be conducted where the party will declare its guarantees for the upcoming Telangana assembly elections, Venugopal stated, flanked by general secretary Jairam Ramesh.

On August 20, Congress chief Kharge reformed the CWC, preserving the old guard while giving space to the young and incorporating notable G23 group leaders such as Shashi Tharoor and Anand Sharma in the party’s 84-member top decision-making body.

The crucial CWC, which was established 10 months after Kharge took over, has 39 regular members, 32 permanent invitees, and 13 special invitees. Among the regular members are 15 women and numerous new faces, like Sachin Pilot and Gourav Gogoi.
