In a significant political development, a wave of defections has struck the Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) as numerous current sarpanches and block committee members have joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), citing dissatisfaction with the policies of the Mann government.
Malwinder Singh Kang, the AAP candidate for Sri Anandpur Sahib Lok Sabha constituency, along with Ropar MLA Dinesh Chada, convened corner meetings in various villages to bolster party support.
During these gatherings, sarpanches and block committee members from several villages, formerly affiliated with the Congress and SAD, announced their allegiance to the AAP. Dinesh Chada and Malwinder Kang extended warm welcomes to these new party members.
Among the notable defections, former Akali Dal sarpanch Chaudhary Satish Kumar Sonu of Khanpur Khuhi village, current block committee member Himmat Singh, and current Congress sarpanch Daljit Singh of Aulakh village, have all joined the AAP ranks.
Speaking to journalists, the defectors expressed their decision to switch parties, citing the pro-people policies of the Bhagwant Mann government as their primary motivation. They pledged unwavering dedication to the AAP’s cause and vowed to tirelessly work for the party’s growth and success.
