Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Monday returned to active politics by winning the by-elections to the legislative council with a thumping majority. Kavitha was away from active politics ever since she lost parliamentary elections from Nizamabad in May 2019.
TRS candidate Kavitha managed to secure a landmark victory by obtaining 728 votes out of 823 votes polled, with10 votes found to be invalid. Her opponents from the INC and BJP were out of the race during counting itself when they failed to secure their respective deposits.
The return of Kavitha in active politics after over a year has been welcomed by her supporters who carried out fireworks expressing happiness over her victory.
Kavitha secured over 88% of the votes when the voter turnout had crossed the 99% mark. She was earlier Lok Sabha MP before losing the parliamentary elections last year.
It is understood that she is going to be a minister in her father’s cabinet. Kavitha’s candidature for MLC local body MLC by-elections from Nizamabad was announced in March 2020 which was eventually delayed due to Covid-19.
