On Thursday, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma received a death threat via a phone call, and what added to the shock was that the threatening call originated from within the confines of the Central Jail. The revelation prompted a swift response from the police, raising concerns about the security measures in place at the Central Jail.
The police, upon tracing the location of the accused, discovered that the threat against CM Bhajan Lal Sharma came from a prisoner incarcerated in the jail. The accused, identified as Mukesh, Rakesh, and Chetan, serving sentences under the POCSO Act, were swiftly arrested on a production warrant. The police specified that Mukesh was the individual who made the threatening call.
In a subsequent investigation, it was revealed that two wardens were suspended as mobile phones were discovered within the jail premises. Despite stringent security arrangements at Jaipur Central Jail, including recent incidents where a prisoner ingested a mobile phone during an inspection on January 5, the incident has raised questions about the efficacy of security measures in place, especially given the gravity of a threat against the Chief Minister. The incident has led to scrutiny of how mobile phones are reaching inside the jail, particularly following a threat to the CM’s life.
