A classical music concert was recently showcased by Sangeet Kala Samman Samiti on 29 April, Saturday at India Habitat Centre with the objective to preserve Hindustani classical music among the masses. The event was organised to encourage young talented and promising musicians.
The performance of the evening started by Adhiraj Chaudhuri grandson of Padma Bhushan late Pt Debu Choudhuri , and son of late Pt Prateek Choudhuri.
Adhiraj Chaudhuri on the sitar, was accompanied by Adnan Khan on tabla. “It’s a tremendous opportunity for me to perform in this esteemed music event. During my performance, I was presented a few compositions with improvisations that I learned from my illustrious (Grandfather)Guru, Padmbhushan Late Pt Debu Choudhuri ji, and my father, Late Pt Prateek Choudhuri. They were both renowned sitar exponents of the Senia Gharana,” said musician Adiraj Choudhuri.
The function concluded with a classical vocal recital by Dr Rahul Prakash, a disciple of renowned classical singer Pt Baldev Raj Verma of Indore Gharana. Rahul presented two khayals in Raag Gorakh Kalyan with a reposeful Aalap followed by intricate sargam and merukhand Taans. The programme concluded with two bandishes in Malkauns.
He was accompanied on the harmonium by Ravi Pal and on the tabla by Shanti Bhushan Jha.
