Meanwhile, in the Haryana Assembly election today, voter turnout reached 33.69% by 1 PM. Early voters included Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, and Olympic medallist Manu Bhaker. Opposition leaders such as Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Kumari Selja, and Randeep Singh Surjewala also participated in the voting.
The election features notable candidates like Saini, Hooda, Olympic wrestler Vinesh Phogat, and Dushyant Chautala from the JJP, among a total of 1,027 candidates. The Congress party is aiming to regain power after a decade in opposition.
Polling began at 7 AM and will continue until 6 PM, with vote counting set for October 8. The Election Commission has reported varied voter turnout across districts, with Palwal showing the highest at 27.94% and Panchkula the lowest at 13.46%.
According to Haryana’s Chief Electoral Officer Pankaj Agarwal, the state has 20,632 polling booths for its 2,03,54,350 eligible voters. Of the 1,027 candidates, 101 are women, and 464 are running as independents.
In addition to the BJP and Congress, other significant parties in the election include the Aam Aadmi Party, the INLD-BSP alliance, and the JJP-Azad Samaj Party coalition. In the previous 2019 Assembly elections, the BJP won 40 seats, the Congress secured 31, and the JJP obtained 10. The Congress has allocated the Bhiwani seat to its INDIA bloc ally CPI(M), while the BJP has allowed Haryana Lokhit Party chief Gopal Kanda to seek re-election in Sirsa.
