Chandigarh Congress has severely criticised the working of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation for entering into sweet-heart deals with the Associations connected with the leaders of the BJP and AAP to provide undue monetary gains to them.
Reacting to a press report to this effect, Rajiv Sharma, spokesperson of Chandigarh Pradesh
Congress said that it is a matter of grave concern that maintenance of 44 parks has been allocated to an association controlled by a local BJP leader and the allottee has been paid a whopping sum of about Rs. 9 lacs in the last 4 months, without doing anything tangible on the ground. It is surprising that on the one hand, the Corporation is issuing notices to the society connected with a local BJP leader for not maintaining the parks, while on the other hand, it is making huge payments to it.
The Congress spokesperson further alleged that while, more than half the parks in ward no.17 have been handed over to a BJP leader, a majority of the rest have been grabbed by an association connected with the Local Councillor, who was elected on Aam Admi party ticket.
This smacks of a deep-rooted nexus between MC authorities and the BJP & and AAP leaders and such a level of corruption in the BJP-led Corporation can never be accepted by the people of Chandigarh, he added. The Congress spokesperson further alleged that due to rampant corruption, the maintenance of parks and roads all around the city has been badly suffering during the last few years. The Congress spokesperson demanded a probe into the allotment of maintenance of city parks to unearth the nexus between the Corrupt officials of the Corporation and political leaders, who were favoured by ignoring genuine Resident Welfare Associations.
