Choosing a govt employee as moderator for political debate shows CM’s non-serious attitude: Jakhar

Even as he appreciated Chief Minister’s belated tweet confirming the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) November 1 debate, the Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar raised questions over the choice of PAU Dean Student Welfare (DSW) Dr. Nirmal Jaura as moderator for the crucial debate to be on November 1. Making it clear that there is no question over Mr. Jaura’s capabilities as a writer, teacher and artist, Jakhar underscored that it is CM’s seriousness about Punjab’s pressing issues which is under cloud. Bhagwant Mann ji has forgotten that people of Punjab have chosen him to run the state but the CM time and again tries to hide behind the stage. How can you expect a government employee to remain steadfastly neutral and impartial during a debate involving the state’s Chief Minister, Jakhar said here during a press conference, while adding that Mr. Jaura was appointed DSW on 17-1-23 by the AAP government.
Clarifying that the 3-member panel he had suggested has a distinguished appeal with Dr. Dharamvira Gandhi, H S Phoolka and Kanwar Sandhu being not only AAP’s founder members but with an unblemished record for raising their unequivocal voice for Punjab’s concerns. Responding to a query, Jakhar said he has released a WhatsApp number 7508560065 to elicit peoole’s response over issues to be raised at the Debate to be held at the Punjab Agricultural University premises.
Issues concerning Punjab’s water, education, health, law and order are prime concerns of every thoughtful Punjabi which needs redressal, Jakhar said adding that he has requested all Punjabis to offer suggestions for the debate which must bring out some answers to all pressing issues.
Responding to another media query, Jakhar reiterated that he would not shy away from the debate and won’t even let the CM run away. I have accepted this challenge as someone needs to call out CM’s bluff. People need answers and the CM must come prepared for the same, Jakhar added.
Responding to CM’s tweet on the issue earlier in day, Jakhar said it is amusing to say CM trying to redraft the debate as seeking answers from opposition parties rather showing willingness to give answers which Punjab seeks from him after over and a year at the helm.
