Pakistan: Cop killed, two others injured as police van attacked in Peshawar

According to Pakistan’s Geo News, a police van in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Peshawar was attacked, resulting in the deaths of one police officer and the injuries of two others. Police Officer Yar Muhammad and two other officers were seriously hurt when unidentified armed men attacked their van. According to a report from Geo News, Muhammad passed away from his injuries while receiving treatment. The attack on a police vehicle has not yet been attributed to any particular group.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan has witnessed a rise in terror incidents in recent months after the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ended its ceasefire with Pakistan.
As per the news report, a rise in attacks has been witnessed in July, making it the second deadliest month of 2023, with 124 fatalities and 218 injuries. July also saw the highest number of suicide attacks in any single month of the current year, with five such attacks causing the death of 69 people and injuring 175 others.

The majority of these fatalities occurred during a suicide bombing at a Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) election rally in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa district of Bajaur. The Pakistani government has warned Afghanistan against providing safe havens to the TTP, an illegal organization, in light of the rise in terrorist attacks, according to Geo News. An armed attack was launched against a group of police officers guarding and escorting a polio vaccination team earlier on Saturday in Killi Qambrani, a neighborhood outside of Quetta, according to Pakistani news outlet Dawn. The assault happened during the final round of vaccinations in the area.
