Karachi: Electricity crisis triggers protests

According to ARY News, large protests are taking place in Karachi, Pakistan, due to high temperatures and a catastrophic power outage.

Following the end of the Eid holidays, the electrical situation deteriorated, resulting in lengthier periods of load shedding lasting more than 12 hours in certain areas and up to 16 hours in others.

According to ARY News, residents of Gulistan-e-Johar, Malir, and other areas are facing regular power outages, while residents of Azizabad, Mohammadi Colony, Garden, and Gulzar-e-Hijri are also experiencing continuous load shedding.

Long periods of load shedding during the extreme heatwave have exacerbated the citizens’ predicament, causing significant annoyance.

Meanwhile, protests against the electricity company’s mismanagement have erupted in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Ramswami, and Malir-15, causing traffic jams for hours. According to the research, the excessive heat can cause overloading of the distribution network, resulting in rolling blackouts. A lack of proper customer service, on the other hand, results in a continuous power supply.

People’s misery began with the collapse of the entire distribution system, and they are now experiencing enormous fluctuations in power supply, which are harming their electrical gadgets.
