Chinese Woman learns of Pregnancy Just Hours Before Unexpected Childbirth

A 36-year-old woman from Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, China, said she had her life-changing moment when she gave birth just four hours after knowing she was pregnant. The amazing incident has gained much attention on Chinese social media.

The South China Morning Post reports a woman, Gong, who presented herself at the emergency room of the Zhejiang Provincial People’s Hospital with hypertension. An eight-month pregnancy was unexpectedly discovered in her.It is reported that Gong had abnormal menstruation periods, and that was the reason for the doctor to conduct the ultrasound.

Doctors realized that her condition was an emergency, so they conducted an emergency caesarean section and delivered a healthy baby boy weighing 2 kg. Gong exclaimed in amazement, “There were only four hours from finding out I was pregnant to the birth of my baby.

Gong had previously been diagnosed with a womb syndrome, and she had resigned herself to the fact that she would never have children. The condition had seen her and her husband consider IVF, but doctors advised her to lose some weight before proceeding. According to the report, Gong was tall and obese and loved desserts; however, the report did not disclose her weight.

The surprise pregnancy and delivery highlight a very interesting twist of events, bringing to light other similar cases in the same hospital. Obstetrician Dr. Yang Liwei said that women who are heavier may not even feel the symptoms of pregnancy because they do not gain much weight and the fetus does not move much. “Women not knowing they are pregnant will not take a prenatal examination, which makes it hard to ensure the safety of both the mother and the baby,” Dr. Yang explained.

In another instance, years prior, a 100-kg woman admitted for surgery was found to be 23 weeks pregnant. These cases highlight the challenges of diagnosing pregnancies in women with obesity, further emphasizing the importance of regular medical evaluations.
