Apple appears closer to launching its artificial intelligence platform. Apple Intelligence, in China after months of regulatory delays and political challenges. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the rollout is expected by the end of 2025, likely with iOS 26.1 or 26.2, reported 9To5Mac.
Regulatory Challenges and Partnerships
Apple introduced Apple Intelligence in 2024, and since then, it has been trying to expand its availability to China, the world’s largest smartphone market.
The Chinese law requires approval for any company offering generative AI services, and to meet these requirements, Apple collaborated with Alibaba. The deal was confirmed by Alibaba chairman Joe Tsai.

Although the company initially aimed for a mid-2025 launch, approvals were delayed amid trade tensions between the US and China. The move also ignited debate in the United States.
Representative Raja Krishnamoorti from the House of Intelligence Committee stated that the partnership has been extremely disturbing, underlining the national security risks.
Experts like Greg Allen from the Centre for Strategic and International Studies warned that such collaborations could help speed up China’s AI development.
Why Timing Matters
Apple’s renewed efforts come as it prepares to unveil its iPhone 17 lineup at its “Awe Dropping” event this week. Executives reportedly view Apple Intelligence as a key feature to boost the appeal of new devices.

China is the only significant market not to have access to Apple Intelligence, something which analysts believe has diminished Apple’s performance in the country. CEO Tim Cook has admitted that the lack of these features has accounted for reduced iPhone sales in the area.
Offering Apple Intelligence to China would not only consolidate Apple’s position in the cutthroat Al market but also shore up its position in one of its most significant markets.
