Chandigarh Traffic Police is commemorating the 35th National Road Safety Month, 2024, spanning from January 15 to February 14, 2024. In observance of this milestone, the Road Safety Awareness Cell and Cycle Squad of Chandigarh Traffic Police have actively sustained their road safety campaign, focusing on cyclists and street rickshaw users.
A dedicated road safety awareness initiative took place at Anaj Bazaar Sector 26, Chandigarh, and Anaj Bazaar Chowk Sector 26, specifically targeting rickshaw-hawkers and cyclists.
During this campaign, Vijay Kumar, President of the Rickshaw/Hawker Union at Anaj Mandi Sector 26, along with 125 rickshaw pullers and 150 cyclists, actively participated.
Notably, reflectors were affixed to rickshaws/hawkers and cycles to enhance visibility for other drivers during nighttime. Furthermore, a comprehensive road safety awareness drive was conducted at Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh, engaging a total of 280 visitors.
DSP Traffic Police emphasized the importance of adhering to the provisions outlined in the Motor Vehicle Driving Regulation 2017, Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act 2019, and CMVR 1989. Particular attention was given to the proper utilization of designated cycle tracks for crossing intersections/roundabouts and avoiding slippery roads.
Emphasising the role of responsible behavior in preventing road accidents, participants pledged to abide by traffic rules and regulations. Additionally, they vowed to act responsibly by assisting road accident victims on the spot and ensuring their prompt transportation to the nearest hospital to save lives.
Chandigarh Traffic Police extends an appeal to all citizens, urging strict adherence to traffic rules and regulations. This collective effort is aimed at safeguarding individual safety, preserving precious lives, and fostering a safer road environment for all users.
