A senior constable from the Chandigarh Police, identified as Parvesh, has been apprehended on charges of allegedly supplying drugs to an inmate at Burail jail while accompanying the inmate to District Courts for a hearing.
The incident unfolded on September 26 when an undertrial named Ajit Singh (31) attended a court hearing. Upon his return to the jail in the evening, a routine search revealed that he had 14 grams of charas. Subsequently, authorities informed the police, leading to the registration of a case under the NDPS Act at Sector 49 police station against Ajit Singh.
During the course of the investigation, Ajit Singh disclosed that he had received the charas from senior constable Parvesh. To delve further into the matter, the police obtained a production warrant for Ajit and conducted additional questioning. It was revealed that Parvesh had been responsible for Ajit’s custody during his court appearance. After the hearing, Parvesh reportedly used his mobile phone to communicate with Ajit’s wife, Ravita, who resides in Jammu.
Following their conversation, Parvesh handed over the drug to Ajit. Ravita, at the behest of Ajit, instructed her friend, Rekha, to transfer Rs 1,000 to Parvesh’s account through UPI. Bank records confirmed that Parvesh’s HDFC Bank account had indeed received Rs 1,000 via UPI on September 26.
In light of these findings, Parvesh was charged under Section 29-B of the NDPS Act and subsequently arrested.
