A meeting of the All India Contract Employees Union was convened with Rajeev Verma, Advisor to the Administrator, addressing concerns about job security and the reinstatement of employees affected by the recent decision of the Chandigarh Administration not to extend contracts.
The union emphasized the need for a safeguard policy or a special cadre to ensure job continuity for contract-based and outsourced employees until retirement. The union also urged the Chandigarh Administration to create posts in accordance with increased workloads, following instructions from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Finance.
The delegation sought immediate intervention from Home Minister and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah and received assurance from Advisor Rajeev Verma for prompt administrative action.
Approximately 1735 contractual and 2970 outsourced employees are facing uncertainty due to delays in policy decisions regarding contract extensions, leading to concerns about job losses and hardships for affected employees and their families.
The union called for a humanitarian approach to prevent legal issues and unrest.
The delegation included Tarandeep Singh Grewal, Bipin Sher Singh, Ashok Kumar, Poonam Tapriyal, Shiv Murat, Rupinderjit Kaur, Annu Kumar, Gurpreet Singh, Sahil Kahlon, and Satish Kumar.
