Chandigarh Congress has vehemently refuted the allegations made by Jatinder Pal Malhotra and Arun Sood, president and former president of Chandigarh BJP, terming them as a bundle of lies and a result of frustration over their anticipated defeat in the upcoming Mayoral elections.
Rajiv Sharma, spokesperson of Chandigarh Congress, responded to the baseless statements by stating that the BJP is upset about the strong criticism it has faced from city residents for arbitrarily postponing the Mayoral election in Chandigarh.
Sharma criticized the BJP for pressuring authorities to delay the election by 18 days on frivolous grounds and challenged them to conduct the election promptly if they wish to witness the determination of Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillors to remove corruption and inefficiency from the Municipal Corporation.
Sharma alleged that the BJP’s motive for the delay is to create a political disturbance in the city by engaging in dubious practices such as horse-trading. He further pointed out that the Congress and AAP received double the number of votes compared to the BJP in the 2021 Municipal Corporation elections, emphasizing that the BJP, with only 29% of the votes, misappropriated the mandate and led to a decline in the city’s living standards due to corruption and misgovernance.
Addressing the alliance between Congress and AAP for the Chandigarh Mayoral polls, Sharma clarified that the National leadership of the parties, with the consent of the local leadership and full public support, orchestrated the alliance.
