Chandigarh Congress has expressed deep displeasure over today’s statement by Banwari Lal Purohit, Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh, for contemptuously rejecting the public welfare scheme of providing free water to the city residents.

Reacting to the public statement of the Administrator of Chandigarh that he will not allow the Municipal Corporation to provide free water facilities in Chandigarh, Chandigarh Pradesh Congress spokesperson Rajeev Sharma said that it is unfortunate that free facilities are not being provided by the present BJP government.

The common man is being deprived of provisions like exemptions from payment and subsidies, but on the contrary, these facilities are being given indiscriminately to the rich and privileged people.

Today, liabilities and loans worth lakhs of crores of rupees given to the rich and powerful people in the country are being waived off, which the common citizen also has to compensate by paying higher taxes.

There is no opposition to these pro-rich policies by BJP and its leaders. But when someone talks about giving even a little relief to crores of common people, there is an uproar from all sides.

The Congress spokesperson said that providing free services and facilities to state governors, MLAs, ministers, and high-ranking officials involves huge expenditure from the exchequer, which is being replenished by the taxpayers.

As an example, the Governor of a state, apart from a high monthly salary, is also entitled to a spacious residence without rent along with free household amenities and the deployment of thousands of security personnel along with leave allowances, free conveyance, and traveling allowances.

Apart from this, free medical treatment, custom renovation, and maintenance of residence and office, and all other expenses incurred after additional approval are also taken from the money paid by the taxpayers.

The Governor has also been exempted from paying taxes, including GST on all types of purchases. Similarly, other privileged people like MLAs, ministers, government officials spend thousands of crores of taxpayers’ money on their freebies and perks.
