Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday announced that the Chandigarh Airport is all set to be renamed after freedom fighter Shaheed Bhagat Singh. Soon after the announcement, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh welcomed the decision and called it a dream come true.
In a statement, the Chief Minister said that the announcement made by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi regarding the renaming of the airport in the name of the legendary martyr in the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ has filled the entire country with joy. Calling it a dream come true for him and every Punjabi, Mann stated that he held a detailed meeting with the Haryana Deputy Chief Minister, Dushyant Chautala, to form a consensus on naming the airport in the name of the iconic martyr.
Subsequently, the Chief Minister expressed that he had personally written a letter to the Government of India to name the airport after Shaheed Bhagat Singh ahead of the birth anniversary of Shaheed-E-Azam, i.e 28th September. He further said that the announcement made by the Prime Minister is a result of these endeavours, adding that it is a real tribute to the young martyr.
The Chief Minister reiterated his government’s commitment to honouring the dreams of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, who gave his life on the altar of the motherland during the fight against Britishers. “Shaheed Bhagat Singh had made the supreme sacrifice to emancipate the country from the clutches of foreign imperialism. The state government is duty-bound to carve out a progressive and prosperous Punjab for the welfare of every section of society, as envisioned by the legendary martyr,” Mann added.
He further claimed that the previous government in the state hadn’t been able to take consent and change the name of the airport and thanked PM for accepting the decision.
