National Commission For Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) had asked Chandigarh administration to check Beggars’ kids medically on substance abuse in its letter 26 July 2021. Chandigarh Administration is now all set to do medical tests of these children.
In lieu of this letter and previous complaints of city based citizens, Chandigarh Child Protection Unit, Health Department and Chandigarh police would work as one team. Deputy Commissioner Mandip Singh Brar has deputed a team on this task and has ordered everyone to take samples of toddlers in the lap of theirs’ parents. Incase any toddler find to be addicted with any sort of substance; the Chandigarh police along with Child protection unit would take the appropriate action as per the said guidelines of NCPCR.
While speaking on this grim issue, SDM Tejdeep Singh Saini said, “Deputy Commissioner had ordered all the concerned departments to aggressively vigil on this matter. We with Police, Health and Child Protection unit, would check the toddlers on substance abuse and also would rehabilitate the beggars’ kids as far as possible”.
SSP Chandigarh Kuldeep Singh Chahal told The Daily Guardian, “This is a serious issue, whenever Child Protection unit would ask us for any assistance, we would be available at all possible corners”. Tabassum Khan, District Child Protection Officer said, “Every Child is equally important for us. We are here to protect kids against any sort of substance abuse. As per orders given by our seniors, we would now be taking medical sample of beggars’ toddlers in lap of theirs’ mothers only. It is to ensure if there is any substance present in blood of the kids”.
NCPCR has identified 272 such vulnerable districts across the nation where State stakeholders would extensively work on Children who are substance abused and would wean away drugs from their lives while adopting various mediums.
