As Punjab government has refused to reply to the Centre’s queries of how arms and ammunition are being piled up in the hands of gangsters in the state, the Union Home Ministry, in a stern letter, has wanted to know why the state government is yet to respond. The state has been witnessing a series of law and order related issues since the AAP government assumed power. This prompted the Union Home Ministry to chip in, asking Bhagwant Mann government some pertinent questions. The letter, sent by the Inter-State Council under the Home Ministry, on 4 October wanted to know from the state government the followings: Why and how the availability of illegal weapons have become so easy across the state? How illegal weapons reach in the hands of the gangsters? Send detailed report on gangsters operating from inside Jails using foreign-based handlers and committing crimes across Inter-State Border Proliferation and use of illegal firearms by gangsters Are adequate facilities arranged in all jails of the state for hearing prisoners through video conferencing or not? How the gangsters lodged in the jails of the state? Even after 50 days, the Punjab government has not provided information to the central government. A jittery Centre asked the state government to send its reply to its earlier communication. The inputs from the state government is necessary as the information will be needed for the 31st North Zonal Council meeting in January 2013.
