To the delight of consumers who were obliged to avoid tomatoes after their costs skyrocketed across the country, the Centre dropped the wholesale price of tomatoes from Rs 90 to Rs 80 per kg on Sunday.
According to an official release, the Centre decided to modify tomato prices after reassessing the present market scenario. The pricing increases will take effect on Sunday, July 16, in Delhi, Noida, Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Patna, Muzaffarpur, and Arrah, via the National Agriculture Cooperation Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) and the National Consumer Cooperation Federation (NCCF). It will be expanded to more cities based on market prices in the current areas.
