The Navi Mumbai police in Maharashtra have initiated legal proceedings against a couple accused of defrauding a businessman to the tune of approximately Rs 3 crore by enticing him with promises of substantial investment returns.
The case, registered at the APMC police station, alleges that the complainant fell victim to the schemes of Akansha Charit Mehta and Charit Mehta between 2019 and 2021. The accused couple allegedly convinced the complainant to invest Rs 2.89 crore in a travel business, assuring him of attractive profits. To substantiate their claims, they entered into an agreement with the complainant, asserting partnerships with foreign travel agencies, as per the complaint. The complainant, a resident of Ghansoli, persisted in contacting the Mumbai-based couple when he observed no returns on his investment. Suspicions arose as the couple began responding with evasive answers. Subsequently, upon realization that he had been deceived, the complainant took the matter to the police.
In response to the complaint, the police registered a case of cheating against the accused couple.
