“A case of alleged rape followed by the suicide of a minor Dalit girl in the village of Dhamana in Noorpurbedi is gaining traction. Today, representatives of the deceased’s family and various other organizations, until the arrest of the remaining accused in the case, refused to conduct the last rites for the victimized girl.

On December 30, at the Gurudwara Sahib in the village of Naudhemajra, a 15-year-old minor girl returned home with her brother when two young men committed the crime. After the incident, the victim consumed a poisonous substance and succumbed to death during treatment the next day. Following the event, local police apprehended one of the named two youths, Dinesh Gujjar, while the other accused, Harsh Rana, is still at large.

Late evening, after the post-mortem examination by the police, the body was handed over to the family, but today, the family refused to perform the last rites of the victim. Consequently, in an attempt to persuade the family, SDM Shri Anandpur Sahib Mandip Singh Dhillon and DSP Ajay Singh visited the victim’s residence. They assured that the other accused would be arrested soon. Despite their assurance, the family did not comply with the authorities.

Alongside the family members, including the girl’s uncle Surjit Singh, representatives of various organizations gathered and gave an ultimatum to the police administration. They demanded that if the second accused is not arrested by tonight, they would block the Bugga Sahib in the morning at 11 am, forming a committee of seven members.

The accused, Dinesh Gujjar, has been sent on a two-day police remand.
Nurpurbedi Station House Officer Gurvinder Singh Dhillon revealed that the accused Dinesh Gujjar was presented before the honorable court of Shri Anandpur Sahib this afternoon. The honorable judge ordered him to be in police remand for two days until January 4.”
