The Amritsar police have registered a case against three farmers. There was an inadvertent transfer of extra funds by the government into the accounts of these farmers during land acquisition under the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) project. Following a complaint, the police initiated an investigation and began conducting raids for arrests by filing an FIR against the farmers.
This action against the three farmers was initiated at the police station based on a complaint lodged by SDM 2, Nikas Kumar. Identified as Sarabjit Singh, Gurjit Singh, and Manohar, all residents of Muradpura, these three individuals are siblings. SDM 2 issued orders for FIR registration after conducting recent inquiries. Simultaneously, these farmers had approached Maanavala railway station days ago regarding an inquiry into the wrongful fund transfer under the same project.
An additional transfer of 15-15 lakhs was made to all their accounts. SDM 2 informed the police that compensation for land acquired under the Delhi-Amritsar Jammu-Katra Expressway was disbursed to these farmers. An inquiry into irregularities in their accounts revealed an additional transfer of 15.19 lakhs per person into their accounts.
Despite repeated instructions from the office, these farmers were asked to return the money.
