The District Crime Cell team apprehended a car dealer on charges of drug trafficking under the NDPS Act. The arrested individual, identified as Swarn Kumar and residing in Pipli Wala Town, Manimajra Chandigarh, was found in possession of 17.50 grams of heroin.
Not only a car dealer, but the accused had also been engaged in drug smuggling activities in Manimajra for an extended period. The accused reportedly exploited his car dealership as a cover, luring customers who were seeking drugs instead of purchasing cars. Surprisingly, even the police department’s intelligence system failed to detect this illicit operation.
Jasminder Singh, the in-charge of the District Crime Cell, revealed that the police had initiated a special campaign against the drug mafia. Acting on confidential information, the police team successfully arrested the accused car dealer along with the seized 17.50 grams of heroin. A case was registered against the accused under the NDPS Act at the police station in Sector-24, Chandigarh UT. The Crime Cell, Sector-24, had received intelligence indicating the involvement of the car dealer in drug smuggling.
Following this lead, the police set up a blockade near Jiri Mandi Chowk in Sector-39 and arrested the accused. The subsequent search of the individual resulted in the recovery of 17.50 grams of heroin or “chitta.” During the investigation, the arrested individual, Sarwan, confessed to engaging in the drug smuggling business for the past year. He disclosed that he procured illicit substances from various areas in Punjab and distributed them to customers in the Tri-City region.
