Amidst the ongoing turmoil in the Punjab Congress, political activities in the state gained more momentum on Thursday. While a big announcement came out from Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, former minister Navjot Singh Sidhu held a meeting with some anti-Captain ministers and MLAs.
According to sources, Captain Amarinder Singh also held a meeting with some ministers and MLAs supporting him here. The meeting was on till this report was filed.
Raveen Thukral, Media Advisor to the Chief Minister tweeted, “Media reports of CM @capt_amarinder resigning are humbug. He has neither quit nor offered to do so. He’ll lead @INCPunjab to victory in 2022 Assembly polls as he did in 2017. Urge media to stop speculating and spreading misinformation.” Thus, it has been made very clear by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh that he will be the face of Punjab Congress in the upcoming Assembly elections.
On the other hand, after “news” came out about the “decision” of the party›s national leadership to make MLA Navjot Singh Sidhu the PPCC president, a new kind of buzz has been triggered in the state’s politics. Though a formal announcement on the change of PPCC president is yet to be made, Sidhu has also stepped up his activities.
According to information, on Thursday, Sidhu held a meeting with Minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Charanjit Singh Channi and Pargat Singh along with some other MLAs at the official residence of Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa in Chandigarh. During this meeting, along with discussion about the latest developments of the state Congress, discussions were also held on the strategy ahead. At the same time, different types of speculation are being made about this meeting.
Meanwhile, talks about the equation between Captain and Sidhu and the reshuffle in the government and the party have reached their peak. A formal announcement regarding this development is likely to be made by the Congress high command soon.
