Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) protested for the third day today against the BJP nominated councillor and presiding officer Anil Masih and councillors in the election of Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation on January 30. The candle march passed from different parts of the city including, Sector 56, Dhanas, Ramdarbar, Sector 44, Sector 52, Indira Colony, Sector 42, Manimajra, Sector 47, Ward 9 Sunder Nagar, Sector 48. Hundreds of city residents participated in the candle march and demanded punishment for the ‘murderers of democracy’.
Candle march was taken out in Sector 56 under the leadership of councillor Manowar. In which a large number of city residents participated. Speaking on this occasion, councillor Manowar said that the way the 8 votes of Mayor candidate Kuldeep Kumar were rejected by the BJP nominated councillor and his councillors on the election day on January 30 was part of a conspiracy hatched earlier, and city residents will never forgive the BJP.
A large number of people participated in the candle march in Ram Darbar under the leadership of AAP councillor Neha Musawat. On this occasion, Neha Musawat said that the people of Chandigarh will not sit silent until the culprits of democracy are punished. He said that BJP’s Anil Masih and its councillors in the Municipal Corporation on January 30 have done something unheard of till date, hence he should be sent behind the bars as soon as possible.
The candle march taken out in Dhanas was led by Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board Chairman and co-in-charge AAP Chandigarh Dr. SS Ahluwalia and AAP councilor Ramchandra Yadav, in which a large number of people participated and sought action against the Presiding Officer Anil Masih and others involved so that never again anyone can dare to do such a thing. On this occasion, Ramchandra Yadav said that the day will be known as a black day in the history of Chandigarh. He demanded immediate arrest of Anil Masih, BJP councillors and other conspirators.
Speaking, Dr. SS Ahluwalia said that Anil Masih cancelled 8 votes of Kuldeep Kumar by using a pen on the ballot paper as per the plan made by BJP, which is being opposed by every section of Chandigarh. “There is a lot of anger among the people of Chandigarh regarding this. Despite everything and cameras exposing the wrong doing, the administration is still turning a blind eye, and no action has been taken yet. The administration should immediately cancel the membership of Anil Masih from the Municipal Corporation. In this regard, the Honourable Supreme Court has already made a strong comment that those who kill democracy should be prosecuted, so that no one can do it again”, he added.
He further said that hunger strike in front of the MC office entered the fifth day. AAP councillors Yogesh Dhingra, Ravinder Mehta, TC Goyal, Harpreet Singh and Avtar Singh sat on hunger strike today. AAP leaders Meena Sharma, Abha Bansal, Sukhraj Sandhu, councillor Prem Lata, Jaswinder Kaur, Suman Sharma, Ram Chandra Yadav, Kuldeep Kumar and a large number of volunteers also participated in this hunger strike.
