The Mumbai concert of Canada-based Punjabi singer Shubh has been canceled amidst controversy. Shubh, who has faced accusations of sympathizing with Khalistani elements, attracted significant backlash after allegations of his support for Khalistani causes surfaced on social media. Consequently, Shubh’s Still Rollin Tour for India has been called off, with BookMyShow issuing full refunds to ticket holders.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had previously suggested a “potential link” between “agents of the Indian government” and the killing of Sikh terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijaar. The youth wing of the BJP, Bharatiya Janta Yuva Morcha, demanded the cancellation of Shubh’s tour and India concerts due to his alleged Khalistani sympathies. Indian company boAt also withdrew its sponsorship, announcing its decision on social media.
Amid escalating tensions with Canada, Shubh faced massive outrage for sharing a distorted map of India that excluded Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and the northeast as part of India. Cricketer Virat Kohli unfollowed Shubh on Instagram in response to the controversy.
Who is Shubh?
Canadian singer Shubh, whose full name is Shubhneet Singh, rose to prominence in 2021, gaining recognition for his single ‘Don’t Look’ with Irman Thiara. However, it was ‘We Rollin’ and ‘Offshore’ that solidified his place in the world of desi music. Originally from Punjab, Shubh began his musical journey in Canada, where he is known for his singing, rapping, and music composing skills.
