Canada’s Liberal Party Drops MP Chandra Arya as Candidate After His Criticism of Khalistan

The Liberal Party of Canada has revoked the candidacy of MP Chandra Arya, a vocal critic of Khalistani elements in the country, ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Announcing the decision, Arya posted on X that the party had informed him of the revocation of his candidacy for the Nepean constituency.

Liberal Party Cites ‘Thorough Review’ for Decision

According to a letter shared by Arya, the party’s National Campaign Co-Chair conducted a “thorough review” of his eligibility before recommending the revocation, which was ultimately accepted.

Arya had previously sought the party leadership but was unsuccessful in his bid.

Arya’s Stance Against Khalistan and Past Threats

Arya has consistently spoken out against Khalistani elements in Canada, making him a target of pro-Khalistan groups. In October, US-based Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun publicly urged Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to act against Arya after targeting Indian diplomats.

Khalistani Calls for Action Against Arya

Pannun accused Arya of spreading anti-Khalistan rhetoric and called him an “Indian agent.”

“Hate speech by Indo-Canadian MP Chandra Arya against peaceful pro-Khalistan activism is an apt example of mouthpieces of Indian government funded and propelled by Indian diplomatic missions,” Pannun wrote on X.

He also referenced Arya’s July 2023 remarks, in which the MP had warned against pro-Khalistan activities in Canada, calling them “snakes in our backyard.”

As Canada moves closer to the elections, the revocation of Arya’s candidacy not only raises questions about the shifting political landscape but also highlights growing concerns over the influence of Khalistani factions in the country’s politics.
