Hiking enthusiasts, brace yourselves for a game-changer in outdoor gear. Canadian outdoor brand Arc’teryx, in collaboration with mobility company Skip, has introduced the MO/GO pants—innovative robotic pants designed to make hiking easier and more enjoyable.

Named after “mountain goats,” the MO/GO pants feature a lightweight electric motor integrated into the knee area. Weighing around seven pounds (3 kg), these pants come equipped with carbon fiber braces that attach a power-boosting module to the wearer’s legs. Each leg’s module, combined with the battery pack encircling the waist, offers a 40% boost to leg strength and can lighten the load by up to 30 pounds (13.6 kg) during climbs and descents.

The MO/GO robotic pants incorporate Arc’teryx’s weather-resistant Gamma Pants, retailing for $200 (approximately Rs 17,000), into their design. The robotic system, which includes rechargeable batteries lasting up to three hours, adjusts the level of assistance based on real-time movement analysis but also allows manual adjustments if needed.

Expected to hit the market around 2025 with a price tag of $5000 (about Rs 4.1 lakh), the MO/GO pants promise to enhance the hiking experience significantly. For those eager to test them out early, Arc’teryx is offering in-store demos at its Climb Academy and an $80-per-day rental service in various cities.

Currently designed for use on both legs, the MO/GO pants offer a balanced support system, but the company is working on a future version that would allow users to connect a single powered module if desired.
