The cab-riding giant Ola Cabs has left Google Maps and has shifted its operation to its homegrown counterpart Ola Maps.

Announcing this update on X, company’s chairman Bhavish Aggarwal said, ‘After Azure exit last month, we’ve now fully exited Google maps. We used to spend Rs 100 crore a year but we’ve made that 0 this month by moving completely to our in-house Ola maps! Check your Ola app and update if needed.’

This announcement comes around the time, when just months earlier, Ola company successfully transferred its workload to its homegrown AI firm Krutrim.

Meanwhile, the company has decided to develop some features like street view, neural radiance fields (NERFs), indoor images, 3D maps, and drone maps in their ola Maps.

In addition, the cloud services from krutim AI are set to provide API services to ola Maps.

As per the company, they used to spend Rs.100 crore a year but now their expenses have come to 0, after moving their operations to Ola Maps.

Earlier in October 2021, Ola entered into the business of geospatial technology, by acquiring Pune-based geospatial services provider company Geospoc. As a result, it led to the development of Ola maps, which is now used for cab-riding company ola cabs.

Simultaneously, ola has decided to give comprehensive mapping solution within its cloud services. Thus, trying to fulfill its broader aim of improving its technological infrastructure and decreasing dependency it’s on external service providers.
