VinFast Launched VF6 & VF7: Premium EVs Set to Transform India’s Electric Market

VinFast is a Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer which has made a giant leap into the burgeoning Indian EV market with the unveiling of its first premium models, the VF6 and VF7.

These SUVs with an introductory ex-showroom price of ₹16.49 lakh and ₹20.89 lakh, it is a threat to not just domestic players like Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors but also international names such as BYD and SAIC.

VinFast: Market Entry & Expansion Strategy

VinFast made a bold statement with its entry indicating India stands as a strategic market. “India is essential to our mission… the response has been phenomenal,” added CEO Pham Sanh Chau.

The company started bookings since July, taking a ₹21,000 token amount and has partnered with 13 dealer groups to launch 32 showrooms across 27 cities with an aim to expand to 35 by the end of the year. A new manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu is being set up, targeting an initial capacity of 50,000 units per year, scalable to 150,000 all to make India a production hub for South Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

What are VF6 & VF7 Specs & Features?

VinFast VF6 Variants:

  • Earth is a 130 kW, 250 Nm torque motor with a range of 468 km (ARAI), bare essential comfort and electronic features.
  • Wind is an upgraded to 150 kW, torque 310 Nm, range 463 km which comes with vegan leather interiors, dual-zone climate control, a premium audio system and ADAS Level 2.
  • Wind Infinity-Identical to the Wind except for the addition of a panoramic fixed glass roof.

VinFast VF7 Variants:

  • Earth is a 59.6 kWh battery, 130 kW power and a 438 km range.
  • Wind is a 70.8 kWh, 150 kW, 532 km, 0-100 km/h in 9.5 seconds.
  • Sky is a Dual motor AWD, 260 kW combined, 510 km, 0-100 km/h in 5.8 seconds, panoramic sunroof available in Infinity trims.

What are Common Features of Vinfast?

From projector LED headlamps and 12.9-inch infotainment displays to ADAS Level 2, wireless charging, seven airbags, and a generous 10-year battery warranty (or 2 lakh km), the VF series looks competitive.

Buyers will enjoy free charging at VGreen stations until mid 2028 and complimentary maintenance for the first three years.

VinFast: Strategic Push Amid India’s EV Surges

The Indian market for EVs remains nascent despite some great strides in adoption 93% year on year jump in electric passenger vehicle retail sales in July. Vinfast sees some golden opportunities ahead, especially as India pushes towards a goal of 30% EV vehicle share by 2030. The inclusion of two stylish, efficient and well-priced EVs could significantly hasten consumer adoption into the mainstream.

VinFast’s is a disruptive wave in the calm waters of the Indian EV ecosystem. Brimming with aggressive pricing, advanced features, local production plan flanked with solid dealership coverage and the Vietnamese automaker is entering India not just to be a player but to take on and redefine the premium electric mobility realm in India.
