Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed projects worth over Rs 30,000 crore during the 51st PRAGATI meeting, covering key sectors including railways, power and road connectivity.
The meeting, chaired by the Prime Minister on Wednesday at Seva Teerth, focused on seven critical infrastructure projects across nine states. The review centred on timelines, inter-agency coordination and faster resolution of pending issues.
In a post on X, Modi said the session also discussed ports, Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0 and other social sector schemes.
While reviewing power sector projects, the Prime Minister called for faster adoption of rooftop solar in urban areas, particularly in cities, residential clusters and public institutions. He said rooftop solar should be taken up in mission mode to reduce electricity costs, strengthen energy security and promote clean energy.
On port and road connectivity, Modi said Vadhavan Port should be developed as a model of port-led, multi-modal development, integrating coastal shipping, inland waterways, freight corridors, high-speed rail, highways and airport linkages.
Reviewing Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0, he stressed that the mission must move beyond infrastructure creation and focus on measurable outcomes through regular monitoring, citizen participation and better coordination. He also asked states to speed up solid waste management infrastructure, including waste processing and GOBARdhan plants.
The Prime Minister also reviewed the Ken-Betwa River Inter-linking Project and said it should serve as a model for resolving inter-state water issues through cooperation, technology-based monitoring and mission-mode execution.
Modi underlined that delays in public projects lead to cost escalation and deny citizens timely access to essential facilities. He urged ministries, departments and states to adopt a proactive and time-bound approach to remove bottlenecks and ensure faster execution.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi also suggested exploring the use of canal networks for installing solar panels along and over canals to generate clean electricity, optimise land use and reduce evaporation losses.
At the start of the meeting, the Cabinet Secretary informed that a system of monthly review of social sector schemes at the state level had been operationalised, with Swachh Bharat Mission taken up first for review.
