Ford is recalling 312,120 vehicles in the United States as loss of power brake assist during driving can increase stopping distance and the possibility of a crash, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported on Friday.
The recall involves some 2025 Lincoln Navigator, F-150, Expedition, Bronco, and Ranger vehicles.
Cause and Possible Effect
The agency reported that the Electronic Brake Booster (EBB) module could fail while driving or when the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) feature is used, leading to loss of power brake assist.
As a fix, the EBB module software will be updated over-the-air (OTA) or by a dealer at no charge, NHTSA stated.
The problem is serious because of the safety risk it presents. The Electronic Brake Booster is a key part that assists in decreasing the effort of braking. Failure of this booster can make it harder for drivers to slow down or stop vehicles in time, particularly in case of emergency situations. The loss of power brake support can especially affect large vehicles such as the F-150 and Expedition, which need more force to stop.
Next Steps for Vehicle Owners
Ford has not yet reported any crashes or injuries due to the problem but is taking precautionary measures to prevent any potential accidents from occurring. The owners of the vehicles involved will be informed through mail from next week. The recall highlights the growing influence of software in contemporary vehicles and the significance of remote update functions, which can provide safety patches without a visit to a service facility.
The action is part of Ford’s wider commitment to safety and quality in vehicles. Customers are urged to call their local Ford dealership or see the NHTSA recall website to determine if their vehicle is included and arrange a software update as required.
