According to the most recent “Forbes World’s Billionaires List 2024,” Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries, is the richest Indian, with a fortune of $116 billion. Ambani has secured the ninth position globally among the wealthiest individuals. His wealth has witnessed a remarkable surge of 39.76 percent, propelling him to the esteemed $100 billion club, a first for an Indian tycoon.

The head of the Adani Group, Gautam Adani, who has a healthy net worth of $84 billion, comes in second place. With $33.5 billion in assets, Savitri Jindal is still the richest woman in India and is firmly positioned as the fourth wealthiest person in the nation.

The inclusion of 200 individuals in the list marks a significant rise in Indian representation compared to 169 from the previous year. This elevation places India as the third-highest contributor globally in terms of billionaire count. Among the newcomers to the billionaire ranks are noteworthy personalities such as Ramesh Kunhikannan of Kaynes Tech, Naresh Trehan of Medanta, and Renuka Jagtiani of Landmark Group. However, Byju Raveendran and Rohiqa Mistry, associated with the embattled edtech firm Byju’s, have been omitted from the list this year.

On a global scale, the number of billionaires has surged to 2,781, reflecting a rise of 141 from the previous year. Bernard Arnault and his family retain their supremacy at the summit of the global list with assets valued at $233 billion. They are trailed by Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, Larry Ellison, Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, Steve Ballmer, Mukesh Ambani, and Larry Page, respectively.

With 813 members in the exclusive club, the United States continues to be the country where billionaires live the most, followed by China (473 billionaires, including Hong Kong). With 200 billionaires, India is ranked third in this list.
