Adani Ports to Develop New Multipurpose Berth at Kandla Port in Gujarat

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ), India’s largest port developer and operator, has entered a strategic agreement with Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) to develop a new multipurpose berth at Deendayal Port in Kandla, Gujarat. The new project aims to strengthen APSEZ’s foothold on the western coast and increase its capacity to handle clean cargo.

Ashwani Gupta, Whole-time Director and CEO of APSEZ, stated, “Berth No. 13 will diversify our operations at Deendayal Port. We will now handle multipurpose clean cargo, in addition to the dry bulk cargo we already manage. This expansion will consolidate our position on the western coast and enhance our ability to serve customers in Gujarat and north India.”

Key Details of the Berth Development
APSEZ has established a subsidiary, DPA Container and Clean Cargo Terminal Limited (DPACCCTL), to manage the berth’s operations. In July 2024, APSEZ received the Letter of Intent (LOI) to develop, operate, and maintain Berth No. 13 under a 30-year concession agreement.

The project, based on the DBFOT (Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer) model, is expected to be operational by FY27. Berth No. 13 will be 300 meters in length with an annual cargo handling capacity of 5.7 million metric tonnes (MMT). This berth will handle a variety of clean cargo, including containers, further enhancing APSEZ’s operational capabilities.

APSEZ: India’s Largest Port Operator
APSEZ, part of the Adani Group, has transformed itself into an Integrated Transport Utility, offering a comprehensive range of solutions from port to customer. With 15 strategically located ports and terminals across both the west and east coasts of India, APSEZ accounts for 27% of India’s total port volumes. Major ports managed by APSEZ include Mundra, Tuna, Dahej, Hazira, and Mormugao, among others.

Beyond India, APSEZ is developing an international footprint, with projects such as a transshipment port in Colombo, Sri Lanka, operations at Haifa Port in Israel, and management of Container Terminal 2 at Dar Es Salaam Port in Tanzania.

Global Supply Chain and Future Growth
With an expansive logistics platform that includes multimodal logistics parks, Grade A warehouses, and industrial zones, APSEZ is well-positioned to capitalize on global supply chain shifts. As APSEZ continues to grow, its ambitious goal is to become the world’s largest ports and logistics platform within the next decade.
