In a shocking incident in Thane, Maharashtra, a 26-year-old woman named Priya Singh was severely injured after her boyfriend, Ashwajit Gaikwad, allegedly attempted to run her over with his car. Ashwajit, the son of a senior bureaucrat, is accused of beating Priya, attempting to strangle her, and instructing his driver to mow her down.
The incident occurred near a hotel in Thane early on Monday morning. Priya received a call from Ashwajit, requesting her to join a family function. Upon arriving, she noticed his strange behaviour and attempted to discuss the issue privately. However, the situation escalated, leading to physical assault and verbal abuse by Ashwajit and his friends.
“My boyfriend and his friend used abusive language to which I asked my boyfriend to defend me and not abuse which led to the start of something beyond my imagination. My boyfriend slapped me, tried to strangle my neck, I tried to push him away he bit my hand, beat me, pulled my hair, and his friend out of nowhere pushed me to the ground,” she wrote on her Instagram.
The violence reportedly continued, with Ashwajit’s friend pushing Priya to the ground. As she tried to retrieve her belongings from Ashwajit’s car, he allegedly instructed his driver to run her over. Priya, lying injured on the road, remained unattended for nearly half an hour until a passerby intervened.
Priya suffered serious injuries, including a broken right leg that required surgery and the insertion of a rod. Bruises covered her body, and she is expected to be bedridden for at least 3-4 months, followed by additional support for walking. An investigation is underway, and no arrests have been made as of now.
The accused, Ashwajit Gaikwad, is the son of Anil Gaikwad, the Managing Director at the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation. The incident has sparked outrage, highlighting the urgent need for addressing domestic violence and ensuring the safety of individuals in relationships.
