Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP, is expected to move into a prime bungalow in Sunehri Bagh, Delhi. Following his Lok Sabha disqualification and subsequent reinstatement, he was reallotted his previous residence but chose to stay with Sonia Gandhi.

NEW DELHI: Bungalow no. 5 in Sunehri Bagh, Lutyen’s Delhi, is anticipated to become the new home of Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP, and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha. According to sources, the allotment is a mere formality.

In April 2023, after being disqualified from the Lok Sabha due to a criminal defamation case, Gandhi had to vacate 12, Tughlak Lane, where he had lived for 19 years. However, following the Supreme Court’s revocation of his disqualification on August 4, Rahul was reallotted the same residence. Despite this, he had requested the allotment of 7, Safdarjung Lane, which was vacant at the time.

Since the government did not fulfill his request, Rahul chose to stay with his mother, Sonia Gandhi. As the LoP, he holds the rank of a Cabinet minister and is entitled to a type-VIII bungalow, the highest category of central government accommodation.

Meanwhile, sources indicated that the government has also allotted bungalow no. 12, Safdarjung Road, to Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and bungalow no. 9, Thyagraj Marg, to Panchayati Raj Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as Lalan Singh.
