A BSF Sub-Inspector was killed in the fresh ceasefire violation by Pakistan near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district on Tuesday, police said. As per reports, shelling was still going on in the sector as the Indian Army was engaged in heavy counter shelling.

On Tuesday police and officials said Pakistan also started firing and shelling in Karol Krishna, Gurnam and Pansar border outposts along the International Border (IB) in Hiranagar sector of Kathua district, prompting retaliation by the BSF.

The firing from across the border started around 9.35 pm on Monday and continued till 4.40 am on Tuesday, they said, adding there was no report of any casualty or damage on Indian side in these sectors especially in Hiranagar and Kathua.

Reports said that a BSF officer was killed in a sniper attack and police have identified the place as Tarkundi area of Mendhar in Poonch district.

Inspector General of BSF, Jammu frontier, N.S. Jamwal, told the media that BSF was very vigilant on the borders and paid rich tributes to the sub-inspector of his force who was killed on Tuesday.

It is in place to mention that there has been an increase in shelling incidents not only in the Jammu region but also in the frontier areas of Kashmir Valley in the north.

According to the official data in the month of November, 15 people, including nine security personnel, were killed in multiple ceasefire violations by Pakistani troops in various sectors in Jammu and Kashmir.

The mortal remains of the deceased would be sent by air to Maphoukuki village in Imphal, where his last rites will be performed with full state honours, the statement of BSF said. “The BSF stands in solidarity with the bereaved family,” it added.
