The Akhnoor – Poonch road, known as the “Golden Arc Road,” a vital and historic 200 km stretch linking south Kashmir and the Jammu region to the western part of Jammu and Kashmir, achieved a significant milestone today with the breakthrough ceremony for the Naushera Tunnel.
This critical infrastructure project, National Highway 144A, witnessed the breakthrough ceremony for the Naushera Tunnel, a key element connecting Akhnoor and Poonch. The tunnel, spanning an impressive 700 meters, is part of the larger connectivity project for the region.
Lieutenant General Raghu Srinivasan, Director General of Border Roads, attended the breakthrough ceremony, emphasizing the project’s importance in enhancing regional connectivity and facilitating smoother transportation along the National Highway.
In his address, Lt Gen Raghu Srinivasan highlighted that the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is spearheading essential road projects to connect remote areas with major centers in the Jammu – Poonch region. The Jammu – Poonch link, progressing rapidly, is expected to be completed by 2026, ahead of schedule.
Last year, on November 25, 2023, the breakthrough of the Kandi tunnel marked a significant achievement, showcasing the efforts of BRO in providing connectivity across the areas of Rajouri and Poonch. The progress of National Highway 144A has gained momentum, and the entire project is on track for timely completion.
