On March 15, the Supreme Court will consider a petition filed by the Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR) seeking to prevent new appointments to the Election Commission of India under recent legislation.

The apex court has granted an urgent hearing on a petition challenging the exclusion of the Chief Justice of India from the panel responsible for selecting election commissioners. The high-level committee led by the prime minister is expected to convene this week to finalise the appointment of election commissioners.

Justice Sanjeev Khanna informed advocate Prashant Bhushan, representing the petitioner Association for Democratic Reforms, that the Chief Justice has been informed.
