Anil Jaisinghani, an alleged bookie, was remanded in police custody by a court in this city on Tuesday until 27 March in connection with an alleged attempt to extort and bribe Amruta Fadnavis, the wife of Maharashtra’s deputy chief minister, Devendra Fadnavis.
The police custody of Aniksha Jaisinghani, Jaisinghani’s daughter, was also extended by the court till 24 March.
Anil Jaisinghani was taken into custody in Gujarat the day prior. On Tuesday, he was presented before supplementary sessions judge D. D. Almale.
Designer Aniksha Anil Jaisinghani was detained by Mumbai Police on 16 March after Amruta Fadnavis accused her of threatening her and accusing her of giving a bribe in exchange for assisting in a criminal case in which Anil Jaisinghani was engaged.
Aniksha was produced before the court on Tuesday at the end of her initial remand. The court extended her custody as police said it was necessary for further probe.
The father-daughter duo have been booked under Indian Penal Code sections related to criminal conspiracy and extortion and also under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
At least 17 cases are pending against Anil Jaisinghani, police had said earlier.
