Watch: Black Ferns Share Heartwarming Healing Hug With King Charles At Buckingham Palace

King Charles received an unexpected hug from New Zealand’s national women’s rugby team, the Black Ferns, during a reception at Buckingham Palace. The warm encounter happened when winger Ayesha Leti-I’iga requested a hug, to which the King responded, “Hug, why not?” The enthusiastic players encircled him, leading to a collective embrace that brought smiles and laughter to the event.

The Black Ferns, in the UK for a match against England’s Red Roses, left a lasting impression on the King. During a brief speech, Charles remarked, “I much appreciated this chance to meet you and have such a warm hug from most of you. Very healing,” adding humor to the lighthearted moment.

The King also made a playful comment when the athletes opted for fruit juice and water over champagne, joking, “I’m so pleased to have this opportunity to greet you all…apparently not to be able to give you a drink,” which drew laughter from the team.

This reception marked one of the King’s notable appearances before his upcoming overseas tours to Australia and Samoa for the Commonwealth leaders’ conference. Due to health concerns following a cancer diagnosis, Charles apologized for postponing his planned visit to New Zealand, expressing hope for another opportunity soon.

While the Black Ferns’ joyful interaction added a personal touch to the King’s agenda, discussions about his health are expected to continue as he prepares for future royal duties.
