Vicky Kaushal’s Bad Newz Tackles Rare Heteropaternal Superfecundation

Vicky Kaushal, Tripti Dimri, and Ammy Virk are in the spotlight following the release of the trailer for their upcoming film, “Bad Newz.” The trailer begins with a bewildered Tripti discovering her pregnancy and questioning the paternity of her child.

As the story unfolds, Tripti undergoes a paternity test, which reveals that both Vicky Kaushal and Ammy Virk are the fathers. This surprising twist leads to further confusion until a doctor explains it as a rare case of heteropaternal superfecundation.

The trailer highlights a child born with two fathers, sparking interest in the term heteropaternal superfecundation.

What Is Heteropaternal Superfecundation?

This is an uncommon process where two eggs from the same menstrual cycle are fertilized through different mating events. As a result of separate sexual intercourse with two different partners, the eggs are fertilized by different sperm, leading to the birth of twins who do not share the same father but have different fathers.

This phenomenon is exceptionally rare and is a fascinating biological occurrence.

How Rare Is It?

This process is exceptionally uncommon, with only 19 cases of heteropaternal superfecundation documented to date. However, it occurs more frequently in cows. Unlike humans, cows are not monogamous, making heteropaternal superfecundation a more natural and frequent occurrence in them.

In humans, heteropaternal superfecundation can occur when two sexual encounters with different partners happen in quick succession. The term superfecundation, derived from “fecund,” refers to the ability to produce offspring.

On the other hand, homopaternal superfecundation occurs when two ova are fertilized by the same sperm, resulting in fraternal twins. In contrast, heteropaternal superfecundation results in twins who are half-siblings, sharing the same mother but having different fathers.

How Does It Happen?

Sperm cells can survive within the female body for up to five days. Once ovulation occurs, the egg remains viable for approximately two days before it starts to break down. If fertilization of the egg occurs during the first ovulation, superfecundation can occur within hours or days.

However, if a second egg is released after a female has already conceived from a previous ovulation, there is a possibility of a second pregnancy. This phenomenon is known as superfetation.

Bad Newz, directed by Anand Tiwari, explores this uncommon occurrence. Starring Tripti Dimri, Vicky Kaushal, and Ammy Virk, this comedy-drama is scheduled for release on July 19th.
